K-Shaka - Mwisho wa Mwanzo album launch

They may have faded out of the limelight in the recent past, but they are still hiphop heavyweights in kenya's music industry. Kalamashaka are back again and they will be launching their latest album Mwisho wa Mwanzo: The End of the Beginning, this Jamhuri day 12th December 2014 at the Tree House on Museum Hill from 8pm.
Tickets for the event are selling at ksh.1000 for advance and ksh.1200 at the gate. They are available online on ticketsasa. The show promises to be big after an impresive performance they staged at the SawaSawa festival in which those in attendance were given a teaser of what to expect in the new album as well as some of their classic tunes. According to Oteraw, the album is meant to mark the end of the bad side they have been known for which has tainted their image and staggered their careers and be a fresh beginning in their lives.

Abbas - Ghettoholic


Abbas Kubaff aka Doobeez has released his 3rd album titled Ghettoholic. He released the 22 track album at a colourful event which was held at Club Cubano Greenspan Mall on 27 September 2014 and was graced by big artistes in the industry including Khaligraph Jones, Bamboo, Kristoff, English and Chiwawa. Abbas has been in the game for almost 20 years now and has been synonymous with his rhymes, punchlines, word play and also his consistency in the game. Another launch of the same album was also done at the October edition of hiphop hookup held at Sarakasi Dome on 11th October. The album is available in selected stores and online through amazon and iTunes

Kayvo Kforce - Slumpossible Vol. 1

Most hiphop fans by now are familiar with the term 'Kibera Number Nane', and the first thing that clicks some of their minds will be Octopizzo. What some haven't realised is that Kibera has much more to offer other than Octopizzo. A good example is Kayvo Kforce.
Kayvo Kforce has been in the game for a while now and in July 2013 dropped the mixtape, Slumpossible Vol 1. Below is a look at this mixtape



1. Napenda Hiphop
This is probably the most common track and the signature track in this mixtape. Produced by Chambers, this track talks about the positive influences and effects of the hiphop music and culture.

2. Maisha Haya
This track is produced by Big Beats and its an insiprational track with a message that aims to encourage everyone to have hope in life and not to give up

3. Number One
This track features Stranger the Rapper and is produced by G'Ganji. It has incorporated a reggae feel and is largely an English flow. It gives a message to the youth not to feel inferior but should be the best.

4. Parachute
A mix of Swahili and English is used in this track in which Kayvo takes time to prove to his fans how good he is in the game. This track is produced by Chambers.

5. Set if Off
This jam features Bilari Samaluchi and is produced by Hewa Records is a dedication to his haters. Once again he has incorporated a mix of Swahili and English flows as is the case in most of his tracks.

6. No Better
In this track he challenges out anyone who thinks he is better than him to step out. Kayvo shows why no other emcee is better than him. Production of this track was done by Tracklab kwa Daudi

7. Real Possibilities
Features Kimathi Marshal and Solo Thang from Tanzania. They all display their lyrical prowesses. Kayvo also brings out the way he has been able to make it in life even though the road has been rough for example living in a harsh environment.

8. Rhymin
Kayvo Kforce raps about how hard he works in order to be the best in the game for example waking up early in the dawn just to work on his rhymes while other rappers are 'joking'. The track was produced by K.O.

9. Make it Hot
Yet another track produced by Chambers where Kayvo Kforce talks about how good he is in this game and displays his rhyming ability.

10. Game Face
Features Stranger the Rapper and is produced by G'Ganji. They rap about how they take the hiphop industry with seriousness hence the phrase 'kunja sura' to show how serious they are.

11. Ain't the Same
He looks back from where he has come from and compares with where he is now. Kayvo shows that he is at another level now and is no longer the same as he was a while back. He says he is now on top of his game. Phil B is featured in this Big Beats produced track.

12. Huwezi Jificha
He raps about the usual 'you can run but not hide' adage. He features Bilari Samaluchi, ill Wit and Bobby Slic in this track.

13. Mtaani
Produced by Chambers this track is basically about giving this lady an invitation to his mtaa (hood). Stranger the Rapper is featured.

14. This Doe
Features Khaligraph and is produced by Big Beats. They rap on how hard it is in the industry but they do their best just to get that cash, but still stay true to the game and do it for the hood as well.

15. Props
On this track Kayvo Kforce tells as how he has been tested in the game and proven to be the best. Track produced by Sniper G'Ganji.

16. Falling
Featuring Lisa and produced by Danson Kiundi. Lovely vocals from Lisa in the chorus. Kayvo Kforce raps on how relationships can have trying times but with proper communication and understanding, these problems can be well solved.

17. Ya Mtaa
As usual emcees never forget their hoods and in this track Kayvo Kforce represents his hood to the fullest. He raps about the life in the hood and gives a shout out to everyone that has been behind him. This track is another Chambers production.

18. Usichukie
Kayvo Kforce raps about why you don't have to hate on his skills. He says you should hate your fans for loving his music, hate on his confidence coz it's better than yours. Track produced by Patow and Chambers.

19. Songa
A star studded collabo featuring big names like Xtatic, Ace Punchliner and Khaligraph Jones and produced by G'Ganji. They rap about other talking ill abouy them but that it will not stop or deter them from doing what they do.

20. Life
Produced by K.O and Chambers, in this track Kayvo Kforce talks about the hardships people face in life and encourages those faced with such challenges not to let them wipe the smile from their faces and for everything we should always give thanks to God.

21. Bring it Back
This track is about the relevance of hiphop in the society and Kayvo Kforce tells us that truly 'Hiphop aint Dead'. Track is produced by Square Masters.

22. Real Raw
Features fellow hoodmate Kibera the Mistake and is produced by Hewa Records. They talk about rappers who rap about unnecessary stuff and don't keep their music raw.

23. Wacha Mchezo
This track calls out to all emcees to step it up in the game. Mistari pia kwa wingi, take a sample of one 'hata urushwe kwa kisima huwezi rap well'. Track is produced by K.O and Chambers.

24. My Time
Features Christiana on the vocals and is produced by K.O and Chambers. Kayvo Kforce says it is his time to rise and to stay at the top.

CONCLUSION
This is a great mixtape and its worth listening to over and over again. Great lines with a mix of both Swahili and English flows. The rhymes are well worked out so its worth every penny.

Pwani Vina presents...

Mombasa underground artists now have a platform to showcase what they have to offer to their fans when the Pwani Vina event takes place this weekend on 30th August at the Big Tree Beach hotel in Mombasa.
The show starts from 8pm and will feature break dancers, rappers, graffiti artists, spoken word poets among others. To all hiphop fans in the coast make sure you don't miss this.
The event is dubbed as the Hiphop Hookup Mombasa Edition.

Hiphop Hookup August edition

The August edition of Hiphop Hookup goes down this Saturday the 9th of August at the Sarakasi Dome in Nairobi from 2pm till 6pm.

Campus Diary is an album by MC Mutant and KituSewer that was released on 14th September 2012. It is a mix inspirational, uplifting and entertaining songs. The album also has various tracks that focus on social issues such as alcohol abuse, unemployment, relationships, and education among others.



The two artists have displayed great use of metaphors and an incredible rhyming ability in addition to the incorporation of word play.

Hiphop Hook-Up,May Edition



The Hiphop Hook-Up May edition will be held this Saturday 10th May 2014 at the Sarakasi Dome. The main theme of this edition will be the celebration of the life and times of G Wiji Miti of the Mashifta and Ukoo Flani families who died after an accident on 3rd April 2014.
Among those expected to perform will be Judge, Washamba Wenza, Man Njoro, Wakamba Wawili, Benady Inady, Zakah, Nafsi Huru, Kalimani the MC, Babu wa Nai, Juma Tutu and the Swahili Jazz Band among other big names in the Kenyan hiphop and spoken word industry.
Your hosts for the day will be Smallz Lethal, Washamba Wenza and Nafsi Huru. Time will be from 10am till 6pm and entry is ksh. 100 so make arrangements to attend coz this is one show you don’t wanna miss.

G Wiji of Mashifta passes on



One half of the hip-hop duo Mashifta, G Wiji has passed on. Born 19th May, 1979, Kamanda Ongera Bonface who's popularly known as G Wiji or Miti is said to have been involved in a hit and run accident along the Thika superhighway near Kasarani that led to his death.

Together with Kitusewer, the duo who formed the group Mashifta, made popular hiphop hits back in the 90s and early 2000s which included 'pesa, pombe, siasa na wanawake', 'system ya majambazi', among others, which majorly touched on political and social issues. His most recent track was 'Ulikuwa Wapi' featuring Queen Mashie. He was also part of the larger Ukoo Flani Mau Mau family.

Despite having been out of the public scene for quite a long time, his untimely death has come as a shock to many fans.

Oct8pizzo on top for Brazil soccer anthem


Namba nane's finest, Octopizzo, has been selected as one of the composers and performers of the anthem for the 2014 soccer world cup to be held in Brazil. This selection was done by Coca-Cola the sponsors of the 2014 world cup.

He has been chosen alongside Tanzanian songbird Lady Jaydee and Brazilian David Correy.

Oct8 is really on top. Our congratulations go out to you. The Blackstar rapper who is currently on a European tour had this message for his fans on his facebook page
